If you’re working on setting up Facebook ads, one of the first things you need is the Meta Pixel. If you're wondering what that is, you can watch this short video, but essentially it's just a piece of code.
But finding it? It still amazes me how Facebook makes it near impossible to find if you don't know exactly where to look.
Don’t worry, I've got you.
I’m going to walk you through the steps to find the Meta Pixel in your Meta Business Suite., and by the end of this post, you’ll be able to find your pixel – and, even if you don’t have one yet, set it up.
1st Things First: Make Sure You Have a Business Page
Before we talk pixels, there's one critical step. You need to have a Facebook Business Page, or Facebook Page.
If you don’t have a business page yet, that’s where you need to start.
I won’t be going over how to create one here, but you can check out this article to get that set up. Once that’s ready, come back here.
Now that you have an account and you’ve logged into Meta Business Suite, let’s move on to finding the pixel.
Finding Your Pixel Step-by-Step
1. Log Into Meta Business Suite
To access the pixel, you need to head over to Meta Business Suite. Once logged in, you're going straight for the settings.
After logging in, don’t forget to make sure Two-Factor Authentication is enabled. It may seem like a pain, but it’s worth it.
It adds a level of protection to your account to prevent it from being hacked. Trust me, having ads interrupted due to hacking is no fun, and not only that, if your account gets disabled it can be a nightmare trying to get it back.
2. Navigating To Your Data Sources
Once you're in Meta Business Suite:
- Head to Settings.
- Scroll down until you see Data Sources and click it.
This is where pixels live. But don’t be alarmed if your layout doesn’t look exactly like mine. Meta likes to run a gazillion different versions of dashboards at any given time, so your interface may look slightly different.
You will have all of the same tools in your business suite, but just to keeps things interesting, Meta will mess with you and change it.
Once you’re in Data Sources, you’ll see the option for Pixels, or Datasets Go ahead and click it.
Note
Meta recently started calling them Datasets instead of Pixels, so you might see it labeled that way. If it says that, no worries—it’s all the same.
3. What If You Have Multiple Pixels?
If you’ve tried setting up meta pixels before and got a bit confused (hey, we’ve all been there), you might see several of them listed here.
I accidentally created 3! Yay for me!
It's not a big deal, but you just want to make sure you don't accidentally use the wrong one when you're trying to track something, so I highly recommend knowing exactly which pixels you do and DON”T want to use.
Personally, I messed up so many times that I had to label them “Do Not Use” because I haven't found a way to delete them as of this writing.
Pssst
If you discover how to delete a pixel, please let me know!
In my case, one of my active pixels is called Stacy and Company's Pixel.
It’s important that you name your pixel clearly.
Here’s why: when you’re at the level where you’re running multiple campaigns across different accounts or products, having clear pixel names saves a lot of time and confusion.
Creating a New Meta Pixel
Maybe you’ve never set up a pixel before, so you’re not seeing anything pop up yet. No worries, let’s go through how to create your first one. Fun!
1. Add Your Meta Pixel
To create a new pixel:
- Look towards the top of the Data Sets page. You'll see the option to Add a new data set.
- Click the Add button and select Pixel.
2. Name Your Pixel
Naming your pixel is pretty straightforward, but remember from before:
don’t overlook its importance.
I suggest using something easy to remember like “YourBusinessName Pixel” to keep it simple and searchable.
- Type your chosen pixel name in the Name field.
- Double-check everything and click Create.
That's it! You now have a Meta Pixel that you can install on your website, landing pages, blogs, and any other place that you want to track events.*
*Events is a word Meta uses for activities people take, like clicks, and add to cart.
Remember, not having a pixel set up means you’re missing out on valuable data that can help optimize your ads.
Let me explain what I mean.
If your pixel is on the home page of your website, or sales page- each time someone lands there, your pixel (only if it's installed) will fire.
After a few months and depending on how much traffic you have, Meta starts to learn about your audience, and if you decide to run ads the algorithm will have an easier time finding them.
Not only that, you can create custom audiences consisting of people that have visited your website, or landing page, which can make for more conversions (sales) and lower your ad cost.
It's amazing, right?
Action Step: Go install that pixel. It’s worth the few minutes to get it up and running.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Facebook Pixel?
A Facebook Pixel is a code you place on your website to track conversions and optimize ads. It helps you understand your site's visitors and improve ad performance.
Where do I find my Pixel ID?
In Events Manager, select the pixel you've created. The Pixel ID is listed under the pixel name.
Can I have multiple pixels on one website?
Yes, but you should only use one primary pixel for tracking across the whole site. Additional pixels can be used for specific purposes, but unless you have multiple businesses and audiences, I recommend only using one.
Can I see Pixel data in real-time?
Yes, visit Events Manager. You can see activity almost immediately after it happens on your site.
I don't see a pixel. How do I create one?
Go to Events Manager in your Facebook account. Click on ‘Connect Data Sources' > ‘Web.' Follow the prompts to create a new pixel.
Wrapping It Up
Locating and setting up your Meta Pixel is essential when running Facebook ads. Whether you’re gathering data on your audience or tracking conversions, the pixel is a necessary step to get your ads fully-optimized!
Tip
The longer your pixel has been around the more seasoned it becomes which means the algorithm is catching on to what audience is most likely to take action.
Hopefully, this step-by-step guide makes finding your pixel simple and stress-free.
