What is brand awareness?

🎵Have a-nother-nutter-butter-peanut-butter-sandwich- cookie.🎶  If you're not a Gen xer you might not know this, but if you know what this is- send me a message! ✌️This is my personal example of brand awareness.

Yours might be seeing the golden arches on your way home from work and pulling in because a ☘️Shamrock Shake is calling your name.  That, is the magic of brand awareness.

Strong Brand Awareness vs. Brand Recognition:

It's like the difference between recognizing Taylor Swift in a picture or having every single “Taylor's version” album framed on your wall.  Recognition is just knowing the face; awareness is being a super-fan. 🌟

The Building Blocks of Brand Awareness on Social Media Platforms

Social media isn't just for cute cat videos (though we all love those)  It's a goldmine for getting your brand the spotlight it deserves! I'm always amazed when small businesses don't spend time using social media to build brand awareness (I realize I'm calling myself out) because it's free advertising, amongst so many other wonderful benefits.

How To Get Brand Awareness:

Start simple. Share your story, your values, and what makes your brand unique. Authenticity is your best friend here.  Your social media posts should fall into content buckets.

  1. speak to your ideal client
  2. share valuable information
  3. showcase new products
  4. Stick with your brand image
  5. Build a connection with your potential customers by responding to comments
  6. Nurture your current customer base
  7. show your human side
  8. entertain but always stay true to your brand

How can Facebook ads build brand awareness?

Facebook ads can play a huge role in elevating your brand awareness. When used with the right marketing strategy, Facebook is one of the best ways to reach your target market because of it's almost 3 billion monthly users!

In addition to it's gigantic user base here's a few more benefits of  Facebook ads

  • Detailed Targeting:

Facebook targeting capabilities, are like no other online advertising options. Brands can target users based on demographics, location, interests, behaviors, and even based on their recent online activities. This ensures the ads are seen by those most likely to engage with the brand.

  • Multiple Ad Formats:

From static images and carousel ads to videos, stories, and interactive polls, Facebook provides diverse ad formats. This variety allows brands to showcase their identity creatively and engagingly.

  • Cost-Effective:

Facebook ads can be budget-friendly. Even with a limited ad spend, brands can reach a significant number of potential customers, making it a cost-effective platform for increasing brand visibility.

  • Retargeting Capabilities:

With Facebook Pixel, brands can retarget users who have visited their website or interacted with previous ads. This reinforces the brand message and nurtures familiarity. Do you have your Meta Pixel on your website? Grab my free guide to make it a snap to install.

  • Seamless integration with Instagram

Facebook and Instagram are both Meta companies and each brand awareness campaign you run can be displayed on both platforms.

In essence, Facebook ads offer brands a dynamic platform to not just showcase their products or services but to embed their identity into the consciousness of potential customers. It sounds a little scary and creepy but again remember my jingle from the beginning? I learned it almost 50 years ago. EEEK! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X62UYgAv658

what brand awareness strategy should you use?

Here are the golden nuggets (not McNuggets) that you've been waiting for!

8 Brand Awareness Advertising Examples you Can Try

1) Video story ads showing your business in action.

Show how you prep for the day in your shop. If you're online only, make some videos showing how you prep your deliveries. Show not only the highlight reel but the messy days as well. People want to do business with people not businesses or brands.

Fun side note tangent: Do you remember “Time to make the donuts!”?

Carousel ads can be a great way to show how to use your product, or your process of working with your clients. By using up to 10 cards-images or videos, give step by step instructions. This strategy is engaging to your target customers because they want to see the entire process and keep clicking to the next screen!

Below is a Carousel Post giving 3 helpful tips

3) Launching a Social Media Contest

Who doesn’t love a good challenge (and prizes)? Engage your fans, have them spread the word, and watch your brand’s popularity skyrocket

4) Focus on one particular product

Go all in on a product or service that's unique to your brand and create Facebook ads with brand awareness objective and then follow up with retargeting ads. You will be top of mind for “that one thing”, so when a potential customer needs it, you're the brand they immediately remember.

Pro Tip

One of my go-to marketing strategies is video views. This is a low cost, but effective strategy for increasing your level of recognition with a larger audience. You'll specifically monitor your metrics for percentage of video watched. Once you have a large enough number of video views, create a custom audience and run a conversion campaign with that product to them. See image below of report- I would wait until the 25% was at 1000 before I would do a retarget campaign

5) Strengthening Connections

It's not just about making new friends; it's about keeping the old ones too. Use ad campaigns to target your current audience and turning them all into brand ambassadors!

6) Shout out your loyal customers

Showcase user generated content. For example: a restaurant can ask customers to tag them when they eat there. Create brand awareness by sharing the photos as a “thankful for our loyal customers” campaign! Ask for permission to share something interesting about them to go with the ad.

7) Build Trust

Share testimonials either in a story ad or carousel. Think of these types of ads as just running in the background of your overall marketing strategy. A few dollars a day will get this story out to enough people that when it's the right time for them to purchase what your business is offering you're the first brand they think of.

8) Emotional Connection

Create a campaign telling a story about how your product or service made a difference in someone's life. A great example is the childhood cancer ads. Now, if you're Dwight Schrute at Dunder Mifflin, obviously the emotional connection won't be as deep.

I like this ad below from The “Golden” Bachelor. Of course The Bachelor already has its fan base, but they are building brand awareness and excitement amongst a whole new demographic. Using this story of hope for heartbroken Golden Gerry to find love again after losing his wife of 43 years.

The good news

Once you have brand awareness you will have more successful marketing campaigns, reach the right people and ultimately, end up with new customers!

Bam!

FAQ on Facebook Brand Awareness Ads:

How long should my brand awareness ad be?

It varies depending on content type, but video ads often perform best between under 15 seconds. However, always prioritize quality content over length!

How do I measure the success of my brand awareness campaign?

Metrics like Reach, Frequency, and video views can give insights into how well your ad resonated with the audience.

Can I target specific demographics with my brand awareness ads?

Absolutely! One of the reasons Facebook's ad platform is such an effective social media marketing campaign is it  allows for precise demographic targeting, including age, location, interests, and more.

Is brand awareness only for new businesses?

Not at all! Both new and established businesses can benefit from brand awareness campaigns to remain top of mind for consumers, and encourage customer loyalty.

How often should I run a brand awareness advertising campaign?

Your brand awareness efforts are ongoing. While you don't need to run ads constantly, periodic campaigns can help keep your brand in the limelight. Pro tip: Run a low cost video content ad at all times to a wider audience to keep growing the retargeting audience that you'll use for conversions.

It's Time to become a household name!

So, ready to see your brand's name in (metaphorical) lights? With dedication, creativity, and a sprinkle of fun, your brand can be the next big thing.

Keep in mind, consistency is key. Your audience needs to hear from you enough to not only get to know you, but recognize you, like you, and trust you to want to do business.

It takes time, but it's your business and you're determined to be successful, so continue being fabulous, stay consistent, and just keep going!
